A move from the City to the Hudson Valley, the Capital Region or further upstate stays inside New York State, but it is still a long day for the truck. Here is what is different about it.
In-state means a state license
Moves within New York State are licensed by the New York State Department of Transportation. Our NYSDOT number is 34875. For moves to another state we also hold U.S. DOT No. 967970, MC-432549.
Parkways are closed to moving trucks
New York State bans commercial vehicles on its parkways, and NYSDOT warns that some stone bridges have clearances as low as 6 feet 11 inches. Inside the City, NYC DOT closes the Henry Hudson Parkway north of 59th Street, the Hutchinson River and Bronx River Parkways and others to commercial vehicles. A moving truck heading north uses truck-legal highways instead, so the timing is based on those roads.
Houses, driveways and long carries
Upstate moves are often into houses with driveways, steps and longer carries. Tell us about steps, slopes, narrow roads and anything heavy, so the crew and the truck size are right.
Plan the day
An early start matters on a long in-state move so unloading finishes in daylight. Keep documents, medicine and valuables with you. If the new home is not ready, storage between homes can bridge the gap.
Getting the estimate right
Give us both addresses, the floors or stairs at each end, big items and your date. A written estimate before moving day lists what is included.
